Time flies...

It has been ages since i last do an update. Had lost the motivation to blog. I guess it's a trend that people are moving to the social networking sites like facebook and tweeter, hence making blogging redundant.

It's has been 3 years since i started working and it seems like there are many more to come. Gone were the carefree studying days.

The economy, career, bills, housing are the things i worry about. It's no longer like in the past where enjoying the weekends before school starts is my only concern...

Had been listening to 末班车 by 萧煌奇. The lyrics are nicely written and it comes with a touching MTV.

Important month of March

It has been so long since i last updated my blog, so i guess i should take some time to write.
This March is kinda milestone filled. Many of what i longed to get will happen during this month.

Driving Licence (Class 3)
I always wondered if it this was a joke or a test of my ability that God gave me. I had 27 driving classes in all and it NEVER rained. Yes, not a single session. But during my TP test say on 10 Mar, it actually rained! During my warm up, i was so relieved that the rain had stop. But while i was waiting in the room for the traffic police, it started pouring! I started to get real nervous as i had never experienced driving in the rain.

While in the circuit, i found out that the side mirrors and the back windscreen are filled with dropplets and i could see clearing from my rear view mirror. I depend heavily on the side mirrors to do my vertical and parellel parking as there are no longer poles for guidance. Its now all up to instinct.

Fortunately, i was able to complete all the courses successfully and went for my road drive. The traffic police brought me to Eunos Link and Ubi Ave 3 where i had to do a 4 lane change after a right turn. I know i kinda screwed up as i had problems looking what is behind me from my mirrors. Nevertheless, i could still get back to school without commiting any immediate failure errors.

I followed the tester up for my post-test briefing only 50% confident of passing. To my surprise, despite him scolding me throughout the test, he had actually passed me with 12 points! I was so relieved knowing that i don't have to go through all these again. Mind you, i had a sleepless night the day before...

With my not-so-good skills, i am a one-time pass! I am still in wonderland!

Bachelor of Computer Science (University of Adelaide)
It has been 2.5 years of studying and it was finally over last July. Now its time for me to graduate and get my degree. Graduation will be held at Ngee Ann Polytechnic Convention Hall on 20 Mar. Before that, i will need to get my academic regalia and other stuff ready. I hope that my loved ones can attend the ceremony and share the joy with me...

What i am looking forward to?
1) Pay upgrade or a job change
2) Buy a house (must start saving)
3) Go for a Masters (Project Management? Finance?)
4) Car (if my pay allows me)

Practical lessons for driving is coming up next! Feeling excited as it will be my 1st time at the driver's seat. But before that, i will have my Final Theory text at the end of the month.

It has been 2 months since i took my Exam for my previous module and the results are still not up. What's going on man?

Learning to drive

I wanted to learn driving a few years back but decided to put it on hold as my part-time studies are taking away lots of my free time. Without the ability to cycle, i guess driving is the only private transport i may have (maybe i should learn to cycle too).

After taking some time to consider between private and school, i decided to go the school route. Although it's more expensive, i believe it's more systematic and organised. Basic theory test is upcoming and i really don't want to fail it (quite retarded to fail).

It's another module

Operating Systems is over and here comes Event Driven Computing.

Last weekend was the first intensive lecture and now it's again time to work on the assignments. Our lecturer, Mr David Knight has done a great job with his lectures. He has a sense of humour and can explain concepts clearly.

The significant difference between this module and other modules is that it will be my last module if i pass it. It has been a tired 2.5 years.

Life's gonna be a little different and i hope everything will go well.

Alone in office

It's my late shift duty so i am all alone in office. Could actually head home now but i guess staying in office studying would be a better choice. You know, all that temptations at home...

Fallen sick last Wednesday and have yet to recover fully. Feeling kinda shitty because by taking the flu and cough medication, i have been sleeping my past few days away. It's absolutely fine but not with the exams coming this Saturday. Could have spent my weekends studying instead...

From my progress, looks like there are still too much to study and too little time left. Got to really motivated myself to spend all the free time i have to study. Stress period.

Ohh damn it, i should be studying and not blogging. What am i doing?!

Day after intensive lectures

It was yet another 16 hrs of hell as i nearly died in the lectures. This time, it's one of the worst as the module content is "dry" and the lecturer is Spanish! I am not bias against Spanish but she speaks English with an accent and is really hard to understand. Imagine you are already so tired and still have to use 100% concentration just to try figure out what she said.

And as usual, i was exhausted on Monday. Having a headache, feeling moody and not being able to concentrate. What saddens me more is when friends complained that i am being attitude or even PMS. It's not deliberate and i really don't like to put on an act.

Chinese New Year is coming and it means another year of new resolutions. Looks like the Year of the Ox is quite an important year for me. Here's the missions to accomplish:

1) Complete my degree
2) Get driving licence
3) Have a stable job with my target pay

Hope this year will be a good year for me.

Have not done my shopping yet and time is running out! Sighs...

After work, Donut , CK and me had came out with a last minute decision for Mahjong. Donut checked that her Tampines house was available but we still lacked the forth person. After getting many "no" replies from different people, we managed to get an expert for the session.

I boldly suggested to Donut that we should just get her mum to play so it saves all the trouble. Donna was quite reluctant and told me that her mum was the "principal" of Mahjong and we will probably lose badly.

Here comes the cool part, i suggested to Donut that i will speak to her mum to persuade her to join us. Donut, without hestitating, read out her mum's handphone number while i attempted to call. I managed to get Aunty and even spoke to her on the phone for around 10 minutes, trying to persuade her to play with us. We talked about how "big" we should play, and Aunty was kind enough to warn me to bring more money and be prepared to lose. Well, i responded by telling her if she has the luck and skill to win, i am utmost willing to lose =D. Steady right?

After the phone conversation, Aunty was nice to accept the invitation! What was real funny was Donut refusing to believe that i actually spoke to her mum on the phone. She thought i "Drama mama-ed"! She phoned a mum again to verify that i indeed spoke to Aunty. Donut, i don't lie!

CK went home for dinner, therefore me and Donut also went for dinner before heading to her place. Took the MRT to Tampines before taking a feeder bus to Donut's place. Although we were already late, we still found time to buy some toys for her 3 cutsie nieces and bubble tea!

Mahjong session was great, chatted quite alot with Aunty and was lucky that Aunty did not complain that i was kind of noisy. Aunty gave us an early warning by having alot of "tai" in the first game. It was really a battle of the pros minus 1. I am not refering to you Donut. =X It's one of the most exciting game i had recently. I was quite "suay" as i had to sit behind Aunty for 2 rounds. Sitting behind Aunty is definitely not something fun as i don't really have tiles to "eat". Kudos to Aunty!

Not a surprising result and i am happy to get out of there with minimum damage to my wallet. Poor Donut.

We went to the McD near Donut's place to chill and have supper. Until now, i still can't figure out how we made the decision to walk all the way to my place for prata. It was so damn far, but we managed to do it! Chatted quite abit at the prata place while Donut and CK have their pratas. I was having a flu and had to go to the washroom every 5 minutes. A real torture.

Donut and CK went to my place at around 4.50am to surf the web and wait for the taxi midnight charge to end. Donut enjoyed her Little Nyonya while CK watched the FA Cup match between Wigan and Tottenham.

Finally, it's the end of the wonderful night when Donut and CK left my place at 6.05am to head home. I really hate to be sick on this great, great day!

Surprise result

2 weeks ago, i was struggling badly with my Computer Network and Applications module. Extremely stressed up during the exam preparations. What's worst was the paper turned out to be difficult compared to past years.

So i had 4 options:
1) Write as much as possible, even though it may be crap
2) Sit on the floor and throw my tantrum
3) Pray really hard and hope God will help me fill up the answers
4) Slot some money into the answer sheet and hand up

After the exam, i expected a just pass. If i was lucky, maybe a credit. But failure is not unexpected.

The result came out yesterday and it was a real real surprise. I got a Distinction, a Distinction!

I guess the amount of money i slotted was just enough to get me that result. Ya right, obviously not. I guess i did the right thing by writing as much as possible, regardless if those are relevant.

8 modules cleared, with 2 Distinctions, 4 Credits and 2 Passes. Not too good but not bad either.

2 more modules to go and its the end of my misery. Operating Systems up next but now it's time to enjoy the festive season!

Action packed weekend

It has been a busy weekend in terms of work and play. Got to know on Sunday morning that my assignment deadline is actually Monday and not Thursday. I was not even half way to completion and therefore had to spend my whole Sunday doing it. It was still not enough as i needed half day off from work on Monday to finish up the report. But nevertheless, i still managed to hand it up on time. Barely on time.

So, assignments are over! But examinations are next...

Although being stressed up by the assignment, it was still a wonderful weekend for me. Probably one of the best i have had for a long time.

Just went to see the doctor for flu and sore throat. Looks like lots of people are falling sick due to the bad weather. Given half day MC, i think i really need a good rest...

A blink of the eye, 2 blocks of intensive lectures is over again. Upcoming is a super difficult assignment and exam that requires lots of studying. Stress, stress and stress. After relaxing a few days and its time to start the ball rolling, or else its gonna turn disastrous. I always lack the motivation!

Intensive lectures coming my way again this week. Previous module examination seems quite alright and i think i should have no problems passing. 3 more modules to go, hope everything can go well.

Was is sucky mood the previous weeks. A big thank you to all my friends who lent me a listening ear when i was feeling real down. Felt much better after understanding the fact that certains things are beyond my control.

Will you continue to fight on when the odds are against you?

Journey of life

I might have fell down hard in the past. But i stood up and had walked this far.

Although it's not a smooth journey that i would have liked it to be, i have endured and came through it.

I understand that not everything will be within my control. Whatever is given to me, good or bad, i will have to take it.

I know there are challenges awaiting ahead and i will fight them one by one as i continue to push forward.

First month

It's already nearly a month at Singapore Pools. I have made some good friends. But when i start making friends in a unfamiliar environment, the friends i made becomes so important to me. They are part of the motivation that makes me feel happy to go to work everyday.

But when you have such great colleagues, i am really afraid to lose them.

Weekends are becoming so precious

While started working and continuing studying, weekends are getting more and more precious to me. Weekends (those that i don't have classes on and no assignments to rush) are the only days i can really relax and enjoy myself. It's probably like only 4 days a month?

I am really starting to treasure these weekends now. When things are hard to come by, people will start to realise its value. Just like oil, look at the prices. Damn it.

Has been a week since i started work. Still learning and adapting to the environment and work. Not very familiar with illustrator and therefore have to pick it up asap. I am more of a technical person and is not very confident in conceptualising and producing ideas. Well, i guess i will be painful when i have to do a advestisement (poster, brochure etc) from scratch.

As much as i want to learn, its not nice to do things too slowly and causing a delay. Therefore, I am feeling the intense pressure.

To make things worse, lessons for my new module "Distributed Systems" started yesterday. So, there will be full time lectures on Saturday and Sunday as usual. It's another no-weekend week.

Projects are already on my plate for work on Monday. I feel like a no-lifer. Tired, stressed and depressed are the three words that best describes me now.

It has been some time since i went bowling, ktv-ing and doing the things i like. I really hope my free time will come soon.

Today is my first day of work at Singapore Pools. Has an orientation and spend the rest of the day looking through the past works. Colleagues are pretty nice, young people. I hope there will be many more days to come.

I am extremely tired as i mahjonged till around midnight and had only 5 hours of sleep. I want to sleep...

Job dilemma

Should i look for a job related to my Diploma or look for a job related to the Degree i am doing.

Doing something relevant to my degree will no doubt value-add to my future career. But are companies willing to employ and train someone who is still half way through the Degree course with no working experience?

What should i look for?

Assignments are due tomorrow and examinations next Saturday. Just setup my Starhub wireless connection to replace my Singnet. My laptop somehow can detect the wireless but not my PC (can detect Singnet wireless but not Starhub). Anyone know the reason? I find myself with so many things to cope with. The pressure is piling up continuously since ORD.

My classmates and myself came by a fatal accident today after lunch while heading back to school for lecture. The location was on the road in front of Park Mall.

After we crossed the road, we heard a sharp screech of brakes followed by a loud bang. The sound of the bang was so loud that we thought it was a car to car accident or a car had hit the side of the road. But to our horror, it was a man knocked down.

One of his shoe dropped at the point of the clash and he was thrown around 15 metres away. The impact was so great that the car's windscreen is shattered.

It was a scary scene with victim lying in a puddle of blood, motionless. A lady who witnessed the accident called the police while another guy helped direct the traffic. The driver was sort of in shock after he came off his car and saw the victim. His girlfriend who was on the passenger seat took the driver's seat and drove the car a little to the front which i thought was wrong. Not supposed to move the car after an accident right? Less then a minute later, a doctor who happened to drive by stopped his car to check on the victim and the ambulance arrived less then 5 minutes later.

The driver who is probably in his late 20s was driving an Audi sports car. From the impact of the hit, there is a high possibility that he was speeding or trying to beat the red light. The victim was around 10 metres away from the pedestrian crossing when he jaywalked across the road.

Who is at fault? Probably both. But what really matters is that a life is lost and another shadowed forever. Two wrong decisions from two people contributing to one irreversible tradegy.

After class, i walked by the same road again. Blood stains can still be seen from even 10 metres from where the victim actually was. And his shoe was still left by the side of the road...

Honestly, i was quite disturbed by what happened. Life is precious at the same time vulnerable. So think carefully before taking any kind of risk. Remember that it's not only you that face the consequences, your loved ones suffer too.

Back to work today after 9 days of rest, including weekends and a public holiday. It's always tiring on the first day of work after such a long rest.

Champions league finals tonight and i have a feeling that Chelsea will have an edge over Manchester United. Will watch the match as i happen to be on leave tomorrow. Let's see.

22nd Birthday coming soon. As you grow older, there are alot more things to worry about. I miss those stressless childhood days.

Wisdom tooth surgery

Went to do my surgery on Monday at NDC as planned. It's the first time i have done it and i can tell you that the process is a sort of frightening. As the schedule for surgery on Monday is fully booked, i got a feeling that the surgeon is rushing for time and that is not a good sign.

After putting on the nessesary surgery gear, i was on the chair with my eyes covered up and mouth opened. The doctor applied some gel on my gums and before i know he starts the anesthesia injections. For the bottom gum, the pain is not that bad. But for the upper gum, the instant pain was terrible and i think i tered a little. High. If i don't remember wrongly, i took 4 injections, two up two down.

After a few minutes wait for the anesthesia effect to take place, the doctor started drilling, pulling and digging onto my teeth. Although there is minimal or no pain at all, it is still quite disturbing as i was fully concious. I was holding on to my own hards tightly to overcome the fear. It's really a time when your mind is absolutely blank.

Around 10 minutes later, it was all over. The doctor stitch up the hole to slow down the intense bleeding. Before i left the room, the nurse passed me my wisdom teeth with the top one intact and the bottom one in bits and pieces.

The post surgery effects are quite irritating too. For me, i had bruised left cheek, numbness and slow but consistent bleeding from the bottom wound. I had been drinking my own blood for 2 to 3 days. Eating is a chore too as i can't open my mouth fully. Chewing on a single side sucks too. Whats worse is there is a taste of iron whatever the food i am eating.

When i went back to remove my stitches, the doctor asked me whether i wanted to book an appointment to remove the right wisdom teeth. I freaked out and say its okay as i prefer to let my left side heal fully. I told him i will call back to book an appointment which was a lie. I hum. Since my right side is not giving my any problem yet, i shall hold out. The only disadvantage is after i orded, i have to pay the bills myself. No more bill to SAF. The doctor handed me the 'mother of all syringes' and taught me how to flush the food particles out from the gum hole with it. He joked, "Don't worry, i am not giving you an injection." Not funny.

I think it will take months for the hole to fill up. But lucky for now, there is no more bleeding and very little pain. The antibiotics and painkillers are probably doing their job well. For those who want to go for wisdom tooth extractionfor the one week MC, i think it's not worth it. Unless your favourite drink is blood.

Going to National Dental Centre tomorrow morning for wisdom tooth extraction. Hope everything goes smoothly. Heard from my jie that she had taken out all her wisdom tooth at one shot and claims that it is not that painful. Well, i guess females have a higher threshold for pain compared to males so i don;t believe her fully. Will be removing the left upper and left lower teeth so i keep my right side intact for eating.

Oh and i cannot fall sick if not the doctor will not let me do the surgery and i will have to reschedule my surgery and it will screw up my plans. Please ah don't fall sick!

Lets see how much blood i will lose tomorrow. =D

Thinking of the future

1st intensive is over!

The lecturer managed to let us go early 45 minutes yesterday and 90 minutes today with us understanding nearly everything he taught. This is what it means by being efficient. Being well prepared and having the required knowledge of the subject is the key. In past modules, some lecturers can teach overtime yet leaving us all confused. This really proves that quality defeats quantity for lectures. Come on, explain things to us. Telling us formulas from the book doesn't help at all. I might as well read it myself.

One and a half month to ORD. Therefore, will have to start planning for the future.

1) Find a job and continue to study part-time.
2) Study full-time by doing more modules per term.
3) Fly over to Australia to continue with full-time studies.

Still have 5 more modules to go provided i pass this current one. Any suggestions?

Took leave tomorrow to take a break. Motivated myself to start doing the assignments early. No more last minute slip shot work!

Coding & Cryptology is fun!

The lecturer for this module is quite fantastic. Speaks clearly with no wierd accent. Explains and answers our questions accurately. Shows and let us do examples during class which is very useful as it involves alot of Mathematical formulas. Relate what he teaches to real life situations. It's like the direct opposite of the previous lecturer. Great!

Learning how to encrypt and decrypt messages really interests me. The part i liked most is where we learn how to decipher intercepted encrypted messages. The different methods to decipher messages which are encrypted in various ways is real cool. Feels like some special agent solving some mystery case. Love it!

It is probably the first time i didn't fall asleep during lectures or i should say i was not even feeling sleepy.

7 more hours of lecture tomorrow and its the end of the first intensive. I can't believe that i am sort of looking forward to it!

I got my examination results few days ago and it's like only a week after the actual examimation. It's the fastest ever as previous modules only have their results released after a month or so. When i first saw the notification email from my lecturer that results are out on the transcripts, i was hestitent to log in to view it.

One is the main reasons is because i knew i did badly in the exams and my assignments only managed to provide me with 5 out of 15 marks. I expect to fail, or even fail badly. I kind of tell myself, maybe if i look at the results a little later, at least for the time being it wouldn;t spoil my mood. But after awhile, i find myself unable to stop thinking about it and therefore decided to face the reality. With fear, i logged into my account.

As i click on the 'result' button, it's the moment of truth...

51! 51! is what i saw. Barely passed. It's a result nothing to be happy about but the feeling of relieve is overwhelming. To me, its a miracle that i can actually even pass. The difference between pass and fail is $2000 in cost and 3 months in time. Although happy, i was disappointed to find out that 5 out of 8 my study mates did not make it through. Nevertheless, i hope they will eventually pass the sup-paper.

Most of us believed strongly that the lecturer is responsible for the module's high fail rate. The help given to us is minimal. For example, i posted a question on the forum and he replied, "What do you think is the answer?" Duh, if i knew the answer i wouldn't be bothered to waste time posting it up. When we ask him questions on how to go about doing some part of the assignment, he tells us, "It's your code, you can do whatever you think is right." We believed him and failed the assignment. The worse has yet to come. During our last lecture, he encouraged us not to concentrate too much on past years' exam questions as the format will be very different. We believed him again only to find out that the exam questions was very similar to the past years' paper.

Nevertheless, i am still responsible for my own results. I will not to let myself be in that kind of mess again, never ever. No matter how bad the situation is is future, I would just have to work extra hard to overcome the challenges.

Lots of planning to do

Just finished my course's 2nd intensive lecture. An assignment (damn hard la) and exams on the way. Have to put in maximum effort to have a chance of doing well as i already failed badly for my 1st assignment which is 7.5% weightage and i got only 13/42. Miserable.

ORDing in less then 4 month's time and there are lots of things to be planned and resolved. Just book an appointment for wisdom tooth consultation at the Mindef Dental Clinic and the date i got was 1st April. Did not really expect the wait would be that long. I am also thinking of signing up for a course using e-PREP to utilise my credits and learn something useful. I have enquired about the Sun Certified Java 2 programmer course before deciding whether to proceed. Lastly, leave and off days have to be forecasted and most probably i will have to use them to study when exam dates are approaching.

Have to motivate myself to start working on the assignment 2 as soon as possible so the disaster for assignment 1 will not repeat itself. No matter what, work is not everything. Zhen Zhao, when going watch movie?!

Depressing weekend

It was my first intensive lecture week after more then a month of rest therefore had to be in school on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It's again the start of the term with a new module. The only difference is that this is my first elective module.

"Programming Techniques" bascially is about learning to write algorithms. It's more then just solving problems as things like complexity and efficiency must be taken into consideration. Therefore, analysing the problem (What data is handled? What is the amount of data? What special/unique properties do the data have?) thoroughly and understand what is required before going into coding is important. This allows the programmer to produce the algorithm that will solve the problem in the most efficient way.

Knowing what am i suppose to learn is easy but actually learning how to do it is hard. I find it difficult to understand some of the lectures and also struggled through the practicals not knowing what actually i need to do. It is sort of worrying as i am already having problems with the introductory practical. There are two more assignments coming up and alot more of coding. writing test scripts and testing have to be done. Looks like i have to work real hard to pass this module...

Chinese New Year is approaching day by day and i still have not finish my shopping. Will have to do it this weekend of it's really too late.

But as usual, lessons gonna resume on 18th Jan. Took some time to update and manage my portfolio site which i had not touched for half a year.

Time flies, i am about 5 months away from completing NS. It has been more then one and a half years had past since i enlisted, but it doesn't seemed long ago. Many of my fellow NSF colleagues come and go. Sometimes it's a little sad to see them leave but happy they have finally finish NS. Probably my understudy will come in about 2 months time so that i can teach and handover my job to him. It may be happy to ORD but i think i will also miss my beloved colleagues when i eventually leave.

Chinese New Year is coming again! Really need to do some last minute shopping for new clothes as time is really running out.

Finished my examinations last Saturday and i think passing should not be a problem. The only 'sian' thing is that there is one more assignment to be handed up on this coming Saturday. Have to really motivate myself to do it as i am in slack mode and have not even started.

December is 'shiok', two public holidays and its the time to clear leave! Will be on leave during 20-27 December and with two more days left. Planning to take the same day as some of my friends so we can go out on a weekday to avoid the crowd for maybe bowling or ktv.

Have to start to decide what elective to take next term. It is going to be a hard decision as all the 3 available is not to my liking. Distributed Systems, Operating Systems and Programming Techniques all sound like dry and boring modules. Probably programming techniques will be more hands on but unfortunately, my java cannot make it.

But luckily, the earliest start date is at least a month away from now. So, it's time to relax, enjoy and have fun!

It sorts of screw up the remaining timeline which is already tight. Still can't find the motivation to start working on the assignment or at least study for the exams. Fucking hate myself.

Saturday Shopping @ Orchard

Met up with Hy and Lin on Saturday. It was sort of a last minute call from them to get me off my bed.

While we were at Far East shopping, there was some Halloween event going on. People were dressed up in costumes of ghost, monsters, zombies etc... One of them who was dressed up as 'Zhen Zi' with her long hair covering her face sneaked behind Hy attempting to scare him. But unfortunately for her, my friend turned around, saw her and gave her the 'what the fuck' face and walked away. He then turned to me and complained "Dunno whether her hair dirty or not!" I think the girl must be feeling 'sian half'.

We basically walked around Orchard from 3 to 9pm shopping and my legs are damn tired! I guess its because i rarely shopped for that long and will need more training in future =P. I managed to get a shirt and jeans from Topshop for $130. The jeans is quite low cut and i feel a little 'bu xi guan'. But nevermind, overall it looks nice and i just have to adapt to it.

Took a cab back home as i was too tired to join Hy to watch soccer after that. I wonder how girls can enjoy shopping for the whole day when it's so tiring?

Finally a friend posted to my camp

Saw Adriel again this morning at the canteen. Yesterday was my first time seeing him since we were in Polytechnic. He happened to saw me walk past the foyer and shouted my name. At first sight i couldn't recognise him as he was high up at 3rd level and i was without my spectacles. Had a short chat with him and he seems excited about his NS life. He is now posted to 5SIR which is also the camp i am situated at. Finally after 15 months, i have a friend that is posted here. I guess i will get to see him quite often, salute you Sir.

And also, Sebastian Ang who was in DMMT 04 class posted to my Branch as photographer. The wonder when he came for interview, i found him extremely familiar. He was my classmate and is my colleague now.

Year end is approaching and its time to clear leave! 11 days outstanding. Still planning and picking out the days that can connect and form a long stretch. Strategy sia! Finally promoted to Corporal and can sew the rank up for the final time.

I hate Mondays. I am always feeling tired and moody...

The only thing i am looking forward is playing table tennis with my camp mates. Have been sort of addicted to it for the past weeks.

Lessons for another module is starting this Friday and there goes my weekend. But fortunately i have already had a month of 'holiday' before that.

Facebook is quite fun. At least it kept me entertained when i am extremely bored and have nothing better to do in office. Hai, SOMEONE change job cannot use MSN... What to do... =(

Mathes is alien language to me

I am struggling big time with my current module Discrete Mathematics. Formulas, theorems and facts are driving me nuts. Without A level Mathematics foundation, i am having a hard time understanding the logic within it.

I wonder if those Mathematicians in the past have been isolated on some deserted island whereby they have nothing better to do other than thinking of algorithms. But to be truthful, most algorithms are quite fascinating and highly efficient (and damn complicated too). Trust me, give me 20 years and i will still not be able to come out with something close to those.

But for my situation, i just want to complain "Mathematicians, ni men hai wo!" =(

Examination disaster

I am going to do badly for my DSA examinations. After taking the paper, you will more or less whether is a success or a failure. To be truthful, i have put in effort to prepare for the examination (well if i had not given my best i believe its is at least 80% effort). Hmm, 80% seemed quite fantastic, but is it enough?

The paper turn out to be difficult... Well, i am not trying to find an excuse but most questions require thinking and are full of 'traps'. I simply don't have enough time to finish the 2 hour 1 minute per mark paper. I practiced at least 3 past year exam papers but the difficulty level is nowhere near. I admit that i thought the exam would be somewhere near the previous standards, therefore i did not really expect a 'killer' paper.

It's partly my own wrong doing, but what is done is done. Although there is no use crying over spilled milk, somehow it is hard to not think about it at all. My assignments has been quite well done, but it only takes up 15% of the module result. Really hope i can get through this module and continue on. Worse come to worse, i would just have to retake the module and work harder. Everything now depends on fate...

Next module 1st intensive lecture starts this Friday to Sunday. It's time to get out of my post-exam mood and prepare for the next challenge. Cheong ar!

Cute little Heather

Went to my biao ge's wedding dinner at Parkroyal's restaurant named 'Si Chuan Dou Hua Fan Guan'. The food there is fantastic, probably one of the best wedding dinner i ever had. The
restaurant has a very chinese-style ambience which looks like an ancient palace. They even employed waiters from China that mastered the skill of pouring tea using a 'teapot with a super long tube' (fine, my english sucks) whereby they can pour from a long distance.

I finally get to see my 'biao jie' at the dinner as we haven't met since Chinese New Year. She had recently gave birth to a baby girl named Heather and its also my first time seeing her. Well, i did not have the courage to carry her as new-born babies looked 'soft' and 'fragile' so i was worried that i might accidentally hurt her. I still remember when i was a kid, my 'biao jie' always carried me and played with me. Time files as i am now already 21 and my 'biao jie' also has her own family with a daughter.

Ohh my, that means that i already reached uncle status? Well, i would prefer Heather to call me 'kor' instead of uncle when she learns how to speak. Heather is real cute and will surely grow up to be a pretty girl.

It really made me tempted to also have a baby of my own too. Well, i believe my baby will also be as cute as Heather because he/she will inherit my cuteness =X. I know you people out there are trying to voice your disagreement to this. But it's okay, i understand that you are just feeling jealous. So, just let me live happily in my own world!

Everything ran quite smoothly last Saturday night during my 21st Birthday celebration. I am really grateful to those who contributed to the success in whatever way. And also, i was really delighted and surprised that most of the people i invited turned up. I estimated a crowd of around 60++, which is way higher then expected as most who did not confirm their attendance made it there too! Therefore, it has been a wonderful night for me, and most probably the largest and greatest party i had throughout my 21 years.

Quoted from one of my uncles, "Enjoy your 21st, because time will pass very fast after that. Before you know it, it's yout 22, 23, 24 25th Birthday". Sounds real scary especially when it is being told to a girl =P. Well i believe being 21 is sort of reaching a milestone in life, where it marks the start of adulthood. My life has not changed alot since then, maybe only with a little more freedom whereby greater responsibilities come along.

21st Birthday Celebration

It has been a month since i sign into blogger as i could not find time to write. As for this post, its for 'advertising' purposes =P

I am holding my 21st Birthday Celebration on Saturday, 2nd June at Pasir Ris Aranda Country Club. I will be inviting both relatives and friends on that day. Current status is that i am expecting quite a number of relatives to turn up. As for friends, i am still waiting and counting. It will be sort of like a gathering, basically come eat, chat around and enjoy yourself.

Experiencing my first Army major event

I have not update my blog since Chinese New Year due to time constrains and also laziness. It is a hectic week for me as my Army work just keeps piling up. In desparation, I even had to request for time exension for the submission of my course practical as i have almost no free time to work on it. I am kind of relieved after today after handing up my assignment and finishing most of the work that has to been done for the week.

Last Tuesday was the most stressful day of my Army life. I only managed to leave office for dinner after 8.30 pm. I believe everyone in the Army should know that it is the day for COA Change of Command. As i am responsible for the Army Internet and Intranet, i had ensure that correct information is disseminated. Basically, i had to wait for my colleagues who were at the parade to send back a news article and photographs. Next, i had to upload it to both the Internet and Intranet. I had to also look through the pages to find information that are needed to be updated. Lastly, after double-checking that everything is correctly done and working fine, i can then leave with no worries.

Although it was a tired and stressful day, i gained valuable experience on what the Media and News environment is. No doubt, teamwork, commitment and communication are the key to success in this field.

Tomorrow is Chinese New Year Eve

Today is quite a fantastic day. Had lunch with all my colleagues from 12 to 2pm and was with all the 'big bosses'. The buffet lunch was nice and we 'lao yu sheng' together. There were also some games being organised but i did not participate. All of us were given a goodie bag before we left at 2pm by our boss who i only get to see him occasionally. It's my first time being so close talking to him and shaking his hands. When i reached home, i explored the goodie bag...

One of the red packet contains a big sweep ticket for the draw on this coming Wednesday. I will be a millionaire if i strike first prize =P

First intensive study week

The word 'intensive' is not being used for no reason. The past 3 days is like studying full-time in polytechnic. The only difference is that it is on a single moodule Computer Science Concepts.

02 - 04 Feb (Intensive Block)

Fri - 7pm - 10pm
Sat- 1pm - 8pm
Sun - 9am - 5pm

I regret fooling around too much in java lessons when i was in polytechnic. As my results of java modules are poor, i had to take Computer Science Concepts (similar to OOPM), and Data Structure and Algorithms (took it before). Now i have to endure 16 hrs of java lecture within 3 days. Sort of scary as alot of chapters are covered. Got to complete some tutorials and many practical questions before the next lesson... I hope i won't be stuck at some point, God bless me.

A fallen star...

Taiwanese actress Xu Wei Lun (許瑋倫), aged 28, was officially pronounced dead yesterday, 7.37 pm in hospital after her condition deteriorated.

I first came upon the news about the car accident on newspaper a day ago. It is devastating to know that her injuries were extremely serious. She was in deep coma, her brain swollened, internal bleeding and also losing alot of blood through external cuts. At that time, i hoped that she would be strong and get through this hard test. But after knowing that she may be paralyzed even if she survived, i question myself whether it is really a blessing to stay alive. Will she want to be bedridden for the rest of her life? Will she be going through more suffering? There is no right or wrong answer, everyone has different views. But I just hope that the outcome will be what is best for her.

This morning, i was shocked to hear the news of her death on television. It hurts knowing that a young life is lost in such tragic circumstances. To me, she is a "氣質美女" and a great artiste. Furthermore, although Li Wei (李威), who was her ex-boyfriend was at the hospital, after waiting for 33 hours, he still did not managed to see her due to some considerations from her family. Wen Lun had onced said that of all her past relationships, she had loved Li Wei the most. The pain and agony of him not being able to see her for the last time must be terrible.

It saddens me more when i visited her official site and read a paragraph saying, "但是別忘了我們的瑋倫是仙女呢!!! 一定不會有事的!!!". It is not being updated with the latest news yet, but i know that many hearts have already been shattered...

The cruel fact of her still working yesterday and now that she is gone forever is going to be hard to accept, especially for her family, friends and all those who loved her. Knowing that the world being so unfair and life being so unpredictable, we should always treasure today and what we have. Every new day is a blessing.

Although no longer in this world, she will still be living in the hearts of everyone who cared for her. I also wished that those that were deeply hurt by her departure would stay strong and live through this hard times. Probably now, she is an angel living happily in another paradise...

I felt the pain, tears were the best evidence... Lets pray for her.

When Rooney scored the 53 minute goal, i was utterly disappointed it is probably a lost for Arsenal. Wenger is brilliant by bringing Van Persie for Hleb whereby Van Persie scored the 83 minute equaliser. It was fair that Arsenal gets a point from the match as they had been playing well and were unlucky to fall behind. But when in need of crucial goals, Henry is definitely the man to turn to. Deep into injury time, a fantastic cross from Eboue and a powerful bullet header from Henry ensured maximum points for the Gunners to close the gap on the top 3 teams. A superb comeback against the on-form rivals Manchester United.

It is actually more like Arsenal Reserves vs Tottenham with only Toure, Senderos and Fabregas from the first team. Getting down 2-0 at half time is demoralizing for any team but Arsenal showed spirit and ability to turn things around. Again, Wenger made clever substitutions by bringing on more the offensive Hleb and Eboue. Result of the changes are almost instant as Arsenal became much more effective in offence, earning 10 corners in the half. Eboue contributed to the first goal with an assist and Baptista scored 2 goals to make up for his first half own goal. Arsenal now have the advantage when the teams meet again at The Emirates.

Second medical review

I went for my second medical review yesterday at Changi General Hospital. As usual, it is all about waiting. Reached there at 10.45am and only get to see the doctor at 12.45pm. Doctor said that my wound is sort of 3/4 healed and she will only see me in two months time. Therefore, she will only extend my MC for two weeks which is till 7th Feb. If i happen to need more, i can get it from the polyclinic doctors.

I also received notice that Computer Science lessons are starting on 2nd Feb. So even if i am covered by MC, i still wouldn't want to miss any lessons if not it will be extremely difficult to catch up. Well, just have to endure the pain and drag my feet there...

I am afraid and sick of food like Fried Bee Hoon, Nasi Lemak etc. So, making your own breakfast is much more nutritious and healthier.

2 Slices of Microwaved Ham
1 Fried Egg (1 teaspoon olive oil)
2 Slices of White Bread
Some Raw lettuce

Total calories = about 350

It's Chinese New Year in a months time and it's my year, year of the piggies! Really hope it will be a good year for me in terms of health, studies and relationships. Most importantly, more red packets. Ang Baos! Ang Baos! =D

Teamwork, confidence and class

Arsenal were simply brilliant in the match away against Blackburn. They suffered a terrible setback when Gilberto was sent off for kicking at Savage but the referee only gave a yellow to 'crazy' Savage when he made two dangerous tackles on Gilberto. He had made most of the kick out by Gilberto by doing down to ground dramatically. If Gilberto deserved the red, He should have been off as well as both challenges were not target at the ball.

Arsenal would have collaspe in the past whereby they were one man down so early. Worst still, their away record this season is disappointing and playing against an on form team like Blackburn was never easy. But to my delight, the team simply fired-up and showed class after the sending off. A powerful header from Toure and a great strike from Henry sealed the match for Arsenal.

I am extremely delighted not because they have won the match, but the teamwork, confidence and class shown to get the victory eventhough they were at the disadvantage.

Watching the match was pure enjoyment, Arsenal simply rocks!

Compiling graphics

Spent hours compiling the graphics that are needed for info-graphical presentation. Firstly, i had to classify them into different categories and then save them into various working files for future use. I am doing this also for personal reasons which is to include them into my portfolio.

In fear that my computer harddisk will crash anytime just like my office computer, i decided to back up my portfolio and website files into CDs. Computer are unreliable machines, backing up is very crutial or else there is a risk that everything will be lost...

My day at home

I was damn bored today but not in the mood to do work although my boss handed me some to complete. Spent some time updating my Friendster account since i have not done so for like 2 years? After doing so, i used another 2 hours adding works to my portfolio and uploading them to my Portfolio site.

Arsenal trashed 10-men Charlton 4-0. It could have been much worse with Arsenal dominating the whole match but having most efforts cleared by the on-form goalkeeper Scott Carson. Luckily this time, i managed to force myself out of bed to watch the match with Henry back and on form. Another draw for Aston Villa but it is a good one against Chelski. Arsenal is going to be ahead of Chelsea in the League table soon!

Hmm, it is already 7pm... Time for dinner, see you.

I went for my medical review at Changi General Hospital on Wednesday. I registered and waited at the General Surgery Clinic for my queue number to be called. The person before me were sort of pissed off because and started bitching to the nurse. The helpless nurse then had to take all the scolding and calm the bad attitude jackass down. Then i was wondering, what is the point of giving an appointment time when people still have to wait for hours? I think its a good point for the management to think about and try to minimize all the waiting. For my case, the doctor just check the wound and commented that it is still sort of deep but is very clean. Finally, he decided that i should extend my MC till 24th Jan and go back for review on 17 Jan. Most probably after the next review, it may even extend till Chinese New Year. The procedure lasted for less then 5 minutes and i had waited a damn 2 hours.

I am still waiting for my flesh to grow back... Therefore, i am eating Vitamin C pills, lots of fruits and vegetables.
